Indiana’s Mike Witkowski battled it out for the 250 A Class win and the $125 American Kargo Top Amateur Award with fourteenth overall for the day. Here’s a few words from Mike about the John Penton GNCC.
“I got off to a great start, I went into the woods in 2nd place. Not to much longer after we got into the woods I made the pass for the lead. The First lap I tried to learn the track, But also wanted to check out from the other riders. When I came around 1st lap I had about a 30 second lead. Then on the 2nd lap I got stuck behind some slower riders in the tight woods section. Craig Delong ended up catching me, and passed me when I pulled into my Pit. I jumped in right behind him. He was riding really well. Toward the end of the motocross track I made the pass on Craig Delong, and went back into the lead. After that I tried to stay smooth and fast. I was really liking the track, It had a great flow to it and I was having fun. My bike set up was great. My dad really set up my Enduro Engineering suspension up just how I like it. I kept the lead the rest of the day and was really happy on how I rode. It felt great to take the win in 250 A and Top Amateur!”
“Getting Top Amateur is the best feeling for me. It really tells me that all of my hard work is paying off. I got my best overall finish at the John Penton with 14th Overall. It was a really cool feeling, Because some really great XC2 pro riders finished right in front of me. I just hope to improve each race and get better. I hope to keep getting solid finishes and hopefully Factory race teams recognize me.”
